The Principle Fiefs of the
Sovereign Realm of Warwick
Archduchy of Warwick
Established 1571 by King Edgar III
Prince Harold d'Againcourt named first Archduke of Warwick, 1588, the only lord to have ever held the title Archduke in the history of Haevinia.
Creation:
Apportioned as part of King Edgar III's extensive land reforms to consolidate long held fiefs into the hands of the oldest families in Haevinia.
Location:
Northeast sector of Haevinia. It is composed of the duchies of Burgundy and Andover.
History:
The Archduchy of Warwick wrested control of the northernmost provinces of Haevinia which had historically been held by numerous lords who kept their own counsel and often opposed the divine right of the Sovereign to rule absolutely. Increasingly, King Edgar III came to believe that allowing the ducal families of the north to rule independently would threaten his own sovereignty. When the creation of the Archduchy was opposed, many ancient families were sent to the scaffold for treason. After the succession of King Harold I in 1593, the Archduchy of Warwick is held by the King himself, and exists in title only.
